"57 Varieties + Pikachu." April 30th, 1998. By this time, many, many people have been exposed to the crazy "fad" of Pokemon. By this time, most adults were concerned that their children would turn into mindless brain zombies that had nothing to say but: "I Choose You, Pikachu!" Little did any of these fans and their parents know, that Game Freaks was about to expose their children to something else. Something unexpected. Something, a little weird. It was August 30th, 1998 when the episode, Showdown at Dark City, aired for the first time in Japan. The plot of this episode was one of making friendships, no matter what the circumstances were. Wrong. That wasn't it at all. No, there was a hidden, secret message that was very carefully plotted out.

I think that the picture of our yellow little friend is quite clear. Pikachu has a secret love for ketchup. No one knows why, no one dares to ask, but it's there, and today, we will take a look into this odd fetchism of our beloved character, Pikachu.

Again, we first see this bond between Pikachu and his love for the ketchup in Episode 42 of the anime. immediately after the airing, the gossip began. "How long has this been going on for?... Poor Pikachu!... Does Ash know?... WTF!?!... I don't think my parents will approve..." And the parents didn't approve. Two days after the airing in Japan, concerned parents filed a court case against Nintendo and Game Freaks, demanding that the show be banned. But little did the parents know, that Heinz Ketchup was behind the assault - yes, assault. In order to fully understand why Heinz would be behind such a thing, we must look a bit into their history. 1972, The H. J. Heinz company reached the billion mark - for those of you who can't tell, this is a lot of money. 1991, John Heinze - heir of the Ketchup throne - died in a plane crash. His widow married John Kerry - the one with the long face. How does this relate? Because, we know from Dumbledore, that people can go crazy with power. And with over a billion dollars in his wife's hands, Kerry went crazy. He decided that in his quest for global conquest, he would first begin by gaining access to the minds of children. At the time, Pokemon was being worshiped by children, without any signs of stopping. Taking notice, Kerry paid Nintendo to give Pikachu the unnatural love for Ketchup. It took a while to see results but they did come, two years later.

In 2000, Pokemon was at its height. With a blockbuster movie around the corner, Burger King sent out a line of Pokemon products.
Remember these? They were apart of the Big Kids Meal at Burger King. When kids saw the promotional posters of Pokemon, they couldn't help but remember little Pikachu and his ketchup. Now, remember, at this time, Pokemon was every kid's idol. So, in order to support Pikachu through his hard times, they asked for extra ketchup, on their burgers - even those that didn't like it. This cause BK to order more ketchup from Heinz, who got lots more money. Four years later, Kerry has enough money to run for president, step two in his world conquest. Thankfully, he lost, and we haven't heard much from him since.

Well, now Nintendo has no reason to continue promoting ketchup in their TV show. So they don't. In fact, when was the last time you saw Pikachu showing his love for ketchup? It's been a long while since, an episode where Pikachu glomps ketchup has been released. Simply because Heinz no longer had the money to be paying for such things. And why should they? Kerry had lost in his conquest to rule the world.

So, why does Pikachu like Ketchup? You just read the answer.

Seperating Fact from Fiction

Some of you are going to think that this was the funniest thing that you've ever read in your entire life. Others will think it's the worst. I don't care. I was bored. But, I would like to state that 95 % of this article is fiction and that I am not trying to bash John Kerry in any way - again, I was bored - nor his wife's ketchup, which I enjoy very much. Things that aren't true:

- Kerry's quest for conquest
- The Heinz scandal
- The fact that the Promo at BK was involved in that scandal, even though that was a real promo.

All other dates and events mentioned above are accurate. I did my research.
